Cool! Can you add the option to identify selected audio files in the Files App (iCloud Drive)?

Let me make sure I understand. You want to be able to go into the Files app, select an audio file, then identify the song from the audio file? Or do you want to identify the song using the audio file’s metadata or file name and then find the song in iTunes and add it to your Apple Music library?

Both! Many mp3 or m4a files downloaded from the internet are misnamed or (if used as audio track in tiktoks) are without name completely and hard to identify. So if I got mp3 or m4a or even mp4 files often I need to identify the song. So if I can select a bunch of audio files from an iCloud Drive folder it would be great to first identify the song with Shazam and then do both: 1 - rename the files with the true track name (even if only a partial song) 2 - find and add the songs to Apple Music

I appreciate the detailed response! This is a great request and I believe people would get a lot of use out of this feature. I’m going to start working on this tomorrow and will include the feature in the next release!

BTW, the shortcut should have ‘Show in Share Sheet’ enabled. You can confirm this by opening the shortcut and clicking the circle with the ellipses (directly under ’Done’ at the top on the right hand side of the screen). If ‘Show in Share Sheet’ is disabled, go ahead and enable it. The input types—Files, iTunes Products, and Media—should appear automatically. This will allow you to pass an audio file into the shortcut, which will then analyze and ID the song.

Great! But does't seem to work... :( Here what I did: 1- selected an m4a file from Files App 2 - open share menu 3 - select ShazAM 2.0 shortcut .... Shazam search for a while but it finds nothing: "shazam was unable to find the song" Then I tried the same file with the live shazam song identification function from the iOS panel, and it works. The song is recognized by Shazam. What do you think?

You must play the song in the audio file before running the shortcut. iOS’s native Shazam music identification feature only works when audio is playing. It does not have the ability to ‘scan’ or ‘read’ audio files. This is also the reason that the shortcut doesn’t take bulk inputs 😔 But, all you have to do is 1. Select audio file 2. Tap Play on audio file 3. Run ShazAM from the share sheet while song is playing. Let me know if that works!

I see. Is there a way to start the music in background and run shazam at the same time in the shortcut?

Unfortunately, there’s not. There are quite a few limitations with the Shazam feature in iOS, as well as with Shortcuts, particularly with files—getting, deleting, and saving files, as well as using files as inputs. My initial design was to get audio file, ID song, encode & rename file, save new file in same location, delete previous file. And to have it work for single & bulk inputs. But due to the limitations w/ Shazam and Shortcuts w/ getting files programmatically w/out manual intervention.

I’ve actually been reading through the documentation for YT Music and Spotify recently. So, I am definitely going to try to add this feature.
